On Wednesday, Mom had a successful shunt operation. It took somewhere around 2 1/2-3 1/2 hours. The extra spinal fluid that she can not absorb by herself is now drained by a tube that starts in her head and leads down into the abdomen where it is absorbed along with our natural body fluids.
Since the operation she has made huge gains towards her mobility and her memory. Yesterday they removed her catheter and had her walking up and down the halls. She bragged about being able to finally use the toilet and being able to wash her hands at the sink with real soap and water. Its crazy the things we take advantage of! She still had moments of confusion and is still somewhat convinced that she has been moved around different hospitals and rooms, when actually she has been at TG the whole time and has been in the same room the entire 3 weeks.
The next step is for her to be transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital for rehab therapy. There they will work with her to help her regain her strength and help to stimulate all her brain functions. It will be like a complete mental/physical spa day....most likely a few days.
I can't tell you all how happy I am that she made it through this. The thought of losing my mother even at this moment brings me to tears. She is my best friend, my confidant, my marriage counselor, my mentor, and the very best mother a girl could ever have. She is the most brilliant woman I know, and has the most beautiful loving spirit. I am so grateful that God was compassionate and answered our prayers. Thank you everyone for all the strength and love you gave her in your prayers, it truly healed her through our gracious God.
I know we still have a long road ahead of us, but I am just so happy to say that she is here, she survived, and I look forward to every new minute that I have with her.
Thank you all for your prayers!!!
I LOVE YOU MOM, WAY TO GO
