Our First Allergic Reaction

Saturday night when Gracie was getting out of the shower I noticed she had a couple small red marks on the back of her leg. I didnt think too much of it since she has a history of having sensitive and sometimes blotchy skin.

When I got her up Sunday morning and took of her PJ's her arms and legs were covered with hives. I called the on-call triage nurse and she said that as long as she didnt have a fever and was breathing normally that there was nothing to be concerned about and to eliminate any new foods that she had in the last week.

We decided it was safe to go to church and Im glad we did, cause Gracie had so much fun playing with her friends. We came home, gave her some benedril and put her down for a nap. When she woke up she had a terrible cough and her hives had spread, and I panicked a little so we took her to the ER. Thankfully the cough is due to a yucky cold that we all have now, and not the allergy. They gave her an oral steroid and said to check in with her doc if things didnt improve over the next couple days.

Then yesterday she woke up and the hives were gone, and I thought phew, whatever it was its gone! I gave her all her normal foods that I know she isnt allergic to; or so I thought. This morning when she woke up her hives were back, and this time I am pretty sure I know what is causing them...Cranberry juice. On Friday night I made Cran-grape juice, by mixing one of each flavor in our pitcher...On Saturday Gracie had at least 4 oz of juice....Then yesterday I made Cran-Apple juice by mixing one of each flavor and again had at least 4 oz, probably more like 6-8 oz. Other than the cranberry nothing else was new to her and after looking up the reactions to a cranberry allergy, the first item on the list was Hives.

I am taking her to her pediatrician today at 1:15p, they wanted her to come so they could take a look at her.

Im praying that my hunch is correct, because cranberry is very easy to eliminate from a diet. And I have no idea what else it would be. I will write an update after our appointment today with any notes from the doc and to let you know how shes doing.

Here is Gracie Sunday night in her comfy biker shirt!
